Most people buy a ticket, check the result, and move on. If it doesn't pay out, it goes in the trash. But West Virginia Lottery players who've set up an iPLAY account are getting more out of every ticket – including the ones that don't win.
PlayON is the West Virginia Lottery's official rewards program, and it runs across both in-store and online play. You don't need to change how you play to use it. It just works alongside what you're already doing.
What PlayON actually does
When you sign up for an iPLAY account, you're automatically enrolled in PlayON. There's no separate sign-up process. From that point on, every ticket you scan adds points to your account.
All tickets are eligible for PlayOn points. That means scratch-offs bought at a store and draw game tickets for games like POWERBALL©, MEGA MILLIONS®, and LOTTO AMERICA©. If you play iNSTANT games or draw games through iPLAY, points are added automatically to your account. For in-store purchases, you scan the ticket barcode using the iPLAY app, and the points are credited to your online account from there.
Those points are what give you access to lottery prizes beyond the original draw.
How to use your points
Once you've built up a balance, there are two things you can do with it.
You can use your points by entering PlayON Reward drawings for cash, scratch offs or player experiences. These are separate drawings where your points act as entries. The more points you put in, the more entries you have. Current draws are listed in your account dashboard under PlayON Draws.
One detail worth keeping in mind: points expire 13 months after they're earned. It's not a tight window, but it's worth keeping your balance active rather than letting it sit.
Second chance drawings: what they are and how they work
Beyond point redemptions, PlayON also gives you access to Second Chance drawings. These are separate promotional draws where eligible tickets – including non-winning ones – can be submitted for an additional shot at prizes.
To enter, log in to your iPLAY account, head to the PlayON section, and scan or manually enter your ticket. You'll be entered into any active promotion that ticket qualifies for. Prize pools vary by promotion, and not every draw is running at all times, so check the West Virginia Lottery website or your account for what's currently available.
It works however you play
PlayON was built to work for players in-store and online. Someone picking up a scratch-off at a gas station gets the same access to the program as someone playing iNSTANTS from home. The points stack up the same way, so you can play your way.
Scratch-off tickets can't be played online. You can only scan them through the iPLAY app to earn points.
