Nintendo Humble Beginnings

The story of Nintendo begins in Japan in 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi. His company started out producing handmade Hanafuda cards for use in a Japanese playing card game of the same name. The company grew and in 1929, Fusajiro Yamauchi retired leaving his grandson, Sekiryo Yamauchi to take over the company.

Nintendo Enters The Market In Video Games

In 1966 Hiroshi Yamauchi, grandson of Fusajiro Yamuachi and new president of Nintendo, decided that Nintendo should get into the toy market. It would be 10 more years before they created their first video game. In 1977, they created a device called the “Light Zapper” which was a gun that you used on your television screen. It came out to mediocre reviews and Nintendo didn’t create another video game until 1984 when they released the Game & Watch series.

Nintendo’s Biggest Successful Console Is The Wii

On November 19th, 2006 Nintendo released their most successful console to date, the Wii. Before it’s release gamers everywhere were predicting that the Wii would not be able to compete with its competitors because of it’s lack of power. But when the console was released, people began realizing how fun it really was and sales skyrocketed.

Nintendo Upsets The Gaming Community

In the fall of 2011, Nintendo released their newest home console, the Wii U. There was much hype surrounding the release but gamers everywhere were left let down because the Wii U didn’t have any real power and it came with a gimmicky tablet controller which nobody wanted.

Nintendo’s Next Console Is Called The NX

In March 2015, Nintendo announced that they are working on a new console which is code named “NX”. No one knows what it will be like or when it will release but the gaming community is anxiously awaiting to see what Nintendo has in store for us.
